I use iCloud for game syncing, contacts, calendar, photo stream. But I refuse to do backup, document sync. If you try to do some advance stuff it’s a mess.

The easiest way is to plug in with USB and sync via iTunes. Or if you don’t like iTunes, you could iatsnll the Dropbox app on both your mac and iPad and sync that way.
